The seven sisters of Matariki - By Ruby

Once there lived a boy called Mitai he had seven brother and also he had a grandpa. His grandpa taught him lots of magic. Then one stormy night Mitai and his brothers went hunting, they heard some lovely singing. So they went up a hill and saw seven beautiful sisters and Mitai's brothers fell in love with the seven sisters but Mitai didn't. So Mitai decided to go for a little walk but then he felt a bit bored so he spied on the seven sisters. He heard them say they might kill him! Mitai wasn't that sure because he didn't hear very well but he ws sure he was right. He rushed to his brothers and told them about the seven sisters. After that Mitai told his brothers his plan and then his grandpa weaved up some magical nets so they could catch the mean women. And they did! But...they tried to get out so Mitai turned himself into a bird and threw them away high up in the sky! So now the seven sisters show their beautiful light once a year.

The stoy of Matariki and the 7 stars - By Aille

A long long time ago there was a handsome boy called Mitai. He lived with his 7 brothers. He also had a Grandfather who taught him great magic. One night Mitai and his 7 brothers went out hunting, they came to a hill and heard beautiful singing. "What's that?" asked one of Mitai's brother. "I don't know" said Mitai. "Let's go see", "ok". So they went to see what it was about. When they got there they saw 7 beautiful women but they were actually Fairy women! Then the 7 brothers fell in love with the Fairy women! The 7 brothers became weak and skinny! Mitai told his brothers that they were Fairy women but they didn't believe him so Mitai told them to look at themselves! Mitai went to his Grandfather and his Grandfather gave them a magical net and they went off to catch them in the nets! Mitai turned into a big big bird! The god of the stars told him to fly them far far away so they couldn't hurt anyone again. So that's why we see the 7 stars of Matariki once a year - they are the 7 Fairy women from a long time ago.

Ronald McDonald visits Sunnyhills!

Wow we got to see Ronald McDonald today at school! He taught us all about road safety. We learnt to Stop, Look and Listen before we cross the street. We also learnt to check those sneaky driveways because cars and trucks could be coming out or turning in. Room 11 says use a pedestrian crossing where possible to help you cross the road safely. Remember roads are dangerous so always remember to Stop, Look and Listen!!! Ronald McDonald was pretty funny....thanks for coming to our school.
